The Demographic Analytical Services Unit (DASU) is a fee-for-service unit located in the School of Sociology and Social Work, University of Tasmania.
The Unit specialises in a wide range of demographic and geo-demographic analysis
- target market by demographic, social and/or economic characteristics
- analysis of client's own client/customer/ constituency data
- impact and outcome evaluations
- trend analysis
- cohort analysis
- correspondence analysis
- policy analysis
- population-based projections
The Unit also offers assistance with research design; questionnaire development; database construction and maintenance; data collection, entry, cleaning and manipulation; interpretation and reporting of client's data.
All work is carried out by or under the supervision of Associate Professor Natalie Jackson and the Unit's senior researchers: Dr Maggie Walter (Ph.D.), Dr Bruce Tranter (Ph.D), and Mr Phillip Patman (M.Social Science). The unit also serves as a training ground for quantitatively inclined Ph.D, Honours and Undergraduate students. The unit's current Research Assistants are PhD student Mrs Amina Casey (Hons) ,and Mr Geoff Dickinson (M).
